Hi,
A bit of a strange question for you guys. I am looking to get a custom Belt Case done up for my IPhone, an would like any suggestions on what fabric/materials I should look at. Because I am going custom, I want something that will last a long time, strong, fairly robus and durable. Its an expensive phone so I need something that will protect it. My original Idea was black leather, but around here leather places are a bit hard to come by. Is there any materials I should be looking at, especially materials that could be done with fairly regular mahines. As I said leather people, around here are hard to come by, and so is the machinery. Any thoughts are greatly Appreciated, Thanks, Soundguy_99 |

Are you looking more for style or functionality, such as some extra padding for protection/
There are a lot of "faux leather" fabric you can get that looks good and cost less than real leather. Also, what country are you from? There are a few online shops that will ship to most countries, and each country has its a few local in-country online stores only. Finally, and perhaps more important than just the fabric/materials choice, do you have a a pattern or tutorial that you are using? Sewing and cutting instructions will vary depending on the type of fabric. |

Hi Thanks for the reply,
I am looking for more functionality than looks,I am not going for the bright colors with a pattern if you know what I mean, although regardless of what fabric I need it to be black. I need it to protect the phone, and can go on my belt, and strong enough that it protects the phone, and the phone won`t jump out of the case accidentally. I tend to do allot of stuff up high or am constantly moving around so that tends to be a concern. I am in Canada, so what I was thinking if you guys could advise on some possible type of fabrics I should be looking at, I would have an better of an idea when going to our local fabric store to see if they can bring in something. Also I don`t have a pattern, I have talked to a local stream stress who is willing to make it for me, providing I get the fabric and it will work on her machine. Hence Comming to these forums. I again appreciate, any advice you can give me. Thanks, soundguy_99 |

Felt, perhaps?
This is an Australian shop, but it looks like they sell felt in various thicknesses. The 5mm might be too thick to go through an ordinary sewing machine (because you would have two layers of it), 3mm could be good though. I wonder whether upholstery fabric might do the trick? It has to be durable, and I am pretty sure that a fairly basic sewing machine would be able to handle it.

Hi Thanks guys,
Maybe I am in slightly the wrong area, I am probably looking at more Materials than I suppose fabric. Janet, I actually thought of that, I was wondering though which type of materials I should be looking at. Besides leather, I was thinking either canvas or nylon, but I wasen`t sure which would be better, or if there was anything else I should be looking at. I want something that will last, and although Nylon is durable it fray if your not carefull. I again appreciate any ideas you have. Thanks, soundguy_99 |
